Graston
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
The use of soft tissue instruments to break up scar tissue and promote blood flow and re-oxygenation of hypoxic tissue, goes back to the Ming Dynasty in China (1368-1644). The modern use of instrument assisted soft tissue therapy is often associated with the Graston technique.
Stainless steel tools of various shapes are used with an emollient cream to gently
scrape the region where muscle, tendons and fascia have become adhesed. This
treatment breaks down scar tissue and stimulates blood flow and oxygen to the
treated area.
